Visiting Scholars at the Centre for Gender Studies

The Centre for Gender Studies welcomes applications from scholars of all disciplines with a research interest in gender. Visiting Scholars should hold a doctorate and be established scholars in other academic institutions.

Please note that the Centre for Gender Studies is unable to offer an office or desk space, secretarial assistance or academic supervision to Visiting Scholars.

Facilities provided for Visiting Scholars

  • A temporary University of Cambridge email address.
  • Access to the University Library and online resources.
  • Visiting Scholars will be invited to attend the Centre’s research seminars and Public Events Programme.

Application procedures

Applications are considered throughout the year. All enquiries and applications should be sent to the Centre Administrator, University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies, (gender@gender.cam.ac.uk).

Applications should comprise:

  • An academic curriculum vitae.
  • A covering letter incorporating the dates proposed for the visit and a brief statement (a maximum of one side of A4) of research plans – on any gender topic – whilst at the Centre. Please also specify the funding scheme you have applied to (applicants must be self-funded).

Applications for the title of Visiting Scholar will require the approval of the Committee of Management and we advise applicants to apply in as far in advance as possible.

All Visiting Scholar applications will be subject to a bench fee, payable in advance.

Visiting Students

The Centre for Gender Studies is unable to accept applications from visiting students. Undergraduates wishing to spend time at Cambridge must apply directly to a college to be an Affiliated Student. Each college has its own quota and fees for visiting students. This process must be managed entirely by the applicant and does not involve the Centre.

The Department of Politics and International Studies welcomes applications from visiting PhD students via the CamPo scheme. The Centre is unable to accept any applications from PhD students outside of this scheme.
