UCCGS and Downing College seek to appoint an Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellow in Gender Studies and Human, Social, and Political Sciences. The Fellowship is a new opportunity for exceptional scholars to contribute to both research and teaching within a Department  and College environment, offering excellent preparation for subsequent academic appointments at Cambridge or elsewhere.  

The Fellowship is offered through partnership between UCCGS, based in the Department of Politics & International Studies (POLIS), and Downing College.

As an Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellow, you will have an opportunity to:

  • enjoy protected time for an independent research project;
  • be embedded in a Department research and teaching culture;
  • teach in Colleges in small groups;
  • to act as a College Director of Studies for students choosing to take papers in Politics;
  • teach undergraduate and/or Masters students in a Department  setting;
  • be mentored by Department members in academic skills (teaching, research, publication, grant applications, academic administration).

Eligible candidates will be at an early stage of their career with typically less than three years' experience post-PhD/equivalent, exclusive of any career breaks. You will either already hold a PhD, or have an equivalent qualification, or will have submitted your doctoral dissertation by the Fellowship application deadline. As part of your application, you will submit a short statement of your current and future research plans, and a chapter or article demonstrating your research interests.
